Ms. Raisa decided to stay in her own house, despite the fact that the settlement is periodically shelled.

Previously, the situation was even more difficult. In the spring of 2022, the woman lived in the basement for a month. She did not want to leave, because she had a large household — cows, chickens, geese. But later she did move to a safer place for a few weeks. When she returned, her heart sank from what she saw.

“The yard was completely empty. There were no geese or chickens. The dog was killed. The locals said they saw wounded cows in the field. It was very scary,” Raisa recalls with tears in her eyes.

Last fall, the street where the pensioner lives was shelled with cruise missiles. The neighboring house burned down, there were injuries and deaths. Raisa Alekseevna was lying under a blanket at the time of the shelling. That's how she was saved from the debris. The roof of the house was damaged, windows and doors flew out.

"The local authorities allocated film and I lived with such windows until summer. I can't get compensation from the state because there are no legal documents for the house," the woman explains.

Raisa lives in a building divided between two owners. The neighbors don't want to deal with the documents, so the pensioner can't do it without their consent.

But thanks to the project «Sylna Hromada» is being implemented by Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation within the framework of support for Ukraine from Switzerland, funded by Swiss Solidarity, the woman will not have to spend the winter in a damaged house. All the windows in the house have been replaced, doors have been installed, and the roof has been repaired.

Ms. Raisa is happy with the renovation she dreamed of. She tends to the garden, prepares food for the winter, and takes care of the local cats.

And he really hopes that the skies over the Kharkiv region will become safe.
