“When mom cries, her heart hurts a lot,” an example of the relationship between psycho-emotional and physical health was given by the girl during a group session with a psychologist. It was conducted by specialists of the mobile medical team working in Popivska hromada in Sumy region.
A family doctor, a nurse, a social worker and a psychologist travel to different settlements and conduct free receptions for the population.
After the psychological session, the girl's mother was offered an individual consultation.
“The woman complained of acute heart pain, general muscle tension, constant headache, dizziness, sleep disturbance and an unstable emotional state. She explained that she is most concerned about the separation from her husband and the danger to his life,” said psychologist Elena Shaydenko.
The specialist showed several techniques and exercises that Tatyana (name changed) can use to return to the resource state.
Family doctor Sofia Bezverkha, after collecting anamnesis, conducting electrocardiography, measuring blood pressure and blood sugar levels, determined the preliminary diagnosis, prescribed treatment and referred the woman to specialized specialists.
During the next arrival of the mobile team, Tatiana again needed to consult a psychologist, because uncertain grief was added — her husband was recognized as missing.
A mobile team social worker helped the woman find additional sources of support by connecting her to the communities of wives and families of servicemen in a similar situation. She also facilitated the involvement of children in specialized psychological assistance programs, provided the woman with information about round-the-clock emotional support services, and helped organize follow-up counseling with a psychotherapist.
Tatiana planned a visit during the next arrival of the mobile team in order to strengthen her mental state even in crisis conditions.
The project is implemented by the NGO “Light of Hope” within the EMPOWER project, financed by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ) together with the European Union and implemented by GIZ Ukraine.
