“November 7 will be my birthday. I won’t live to see the 7th. I don’t know if I’ll live to see tomorrow,” Oleksandr told journalists at Suspilny Poltava last week. Today, the man celebrated his 70th birthday among the team, clients of the Adaptation Center of the Light of Hope NGO, and volunteers.
The pensioner's house became uninhabitable due to a fire. Oleksandr lived with his 47-year-old son. After the accident, the men had to live on the streets, and later they were taken to the Adaptation Center for the Homeless and Released from Prisons.
"Now they are getting used to the new living conditions. The social worker has made an assessment of needs and adaptation plans. The most important thing now is a health examination and the restoration of documents that were burned. We found Vitaliy a job. If he earns, then together it will be easier for them to save money for the future," said Marina Pereverzova, head of the Adaptation Center.

The men get used to living in a group and following the rules of the Center.
"I don't live at home, but I'm doing as I am. I'm clothed, they give me food, and medicine too. We have to survive the winter. And then we want to rebuild the house," said 70-year-old Oleksandr.
According to the rules, the Center cannot accept elderly people, as the institution lacks specialized staff who could provide the necessary care. However, we never refuse people who have nowhere else to go. In addition, Oleksandr is looked after by his son Vitaliy.
The men are also supported by caring Poltava residents. In particular, volunteers came to congratulate the birthday boy on his holiday. Thank you very much for your concern!
